  1. Holy crow don't go to a bourough if you are looking to impress someone with a restaurant. Brooklyn is up and coming but who needs to shlep over bridges and into tunnels?

Stay in downtown Manhattan and go to Butter on Lafayette street.   Trendy, romantic, great food and reasonable.  Make a rez though on Opentable.com or call them.  Have fun!!

  2. ShakeShack is a Danny Meyer restaurant outdoors in the Southeast courner of Madison Square Park at Madison Ave and 23rd St. Shake Shack burgers and hotdogs (Chicago-style) are definitely NOT fast food. There is usually a long line which is part of the coolness factor. Once you eat the shackshack burger you will be hooked. You can check the queue length on their website but, weather-permitting, it is always worth the wait. The line is long for a reason

  3. Shake Shack is great, but not exactly a s**y date spot.

There are alot of s**y, romantic restaurants in Manhattan, but they tend to be on the expensive side.

There is, however, a fantastic japanese tapas place in Williamsburg, Brooklyn (trendy extension of East Village, 1st stop in Brooklyn on the L train) called Zenkichi.  It's 3 levels, all booth seating.  Every booth is covered by blinds, giving you total privacy - and the waitress will only come when you ring a buzzer.  I went there, ordered a few plates, a good bottle of sake and dessert and the bill was under 100 bucks for 2 people - I highly recommend it.
