Trenitalia - fare question (i.e. Standard, Sconto whatever.. etc)?

What are these?

I want to book a ticket from Rome to Naples in June but I don't know which fare to book or what's the difference. Standard seems the way to go but I want to make sure I understand it. Some of the trains don't offer the standard fare.

EuroStar is suggested since Rome to Naples is a far trip.

You could also take the intercity which is cheaper. It could be a lot slower than a EuroStar or it could be only a little slower. Depends on the schedule of that particular day.

Either way, for a trip like that I would recommend buying it from the counter instead of from one of the machines so you ensure that you are reserving/booking the right type of train. You could also ask the counter person what they suggest and see the pricing.

Try to reserve it in atleast a few days in advance since the reservations can go quickly.

If two of you are going, buy a day or two ahead of time and get the due per uno ticket for the ultra high speed train.  You can do this on the automated machine.  They are like ATM machines and will walk you thru your choices.  If it is just one of you, buy the standard ticket.  You don't need to book your ticket ahead of time, just wait until you get to Rome to buy it.  They have trains leaving every hour or so, so you will always be able to find a seat.  

If you want the ulta high speed train look for the train with the fancy A next to it.  You can also look at the length of journey and see it only takes 1 1/2 hours.  This train you can buy the 2 for 1 ticket.  If you take the other train, the IC plus, you can buy the standard ticket.  Use the trenitalia website to find the time you want to go,, then buy your ticket at the train station.  (Note: you must buy the 2 for 1 ticket at least a day ahead of time to get that fare.  We bought ours on   a saturday for travel on Monday.)
