Trent Copeland aims to excel after impressive debut start against Sri Lanka – Cricket News Update
After displaying a decent show during the Test series against Sri Lanka, Australia’s fast-medium bowler, Trent Copeland, has set sights on doing well in the upcoming clash against South Africa.
Although, the Lankan conditions were not easy for the fast bowlers, Copeland maintained a good line and length throughout the tour and succeeded in building pressure on the opposition.
Moreover, it was a dream debut for the 25-year-old pacer at Galle, as he nabbed his first scalp off just his second delivery at the highest level of the game. Despite the fact that he deserved more than the six wickets he bagged during the three-match Test series, Copeland is delighted over beginning his career on a great note.
Since he has made an impression in his first series, Copeland believes that his next challenge will be to keep improving his game and producing impressive figures in the forthcoming competition against the Proteas next month.
"Ideally that's where more fruitful things come for me, doing the hard yards in Sri Lanka and I suppose the rewards can come when I'm on wickets which may suit my type of bowling a little bit more. There's still plenty of room for improvement ... but the fact I can be relatively successful in Sri Lanka, it gives me confidence I can be successful anywhere in the world,” said Copeland who is one wicket shy of his 100 in first-class cricket.
Brett Lee has already said good-bye to the longest version of the game, whereas Mitchell Johnson is not at his best these days. In such circumstances, Copeland, along with Ryan Harris, will be Australia’s key man against South Africa.
However, the New South Wales seamer admitted that it will a tough battle against South Africa’s big guns, such as Graeme Smith, Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers and Jacques Kallis.
They're a formidable opposition but that's what you play cricket for, you play to play against the best and test yourself against the best," added the right-arm pacer who maintained an excellent economy rate of 2.10 in three Tests against the Lankan Lions.
