Trentino Diatec Trento defeats Sesi Sao Paulo by 3-1: World Club Volleyball Championship
Trentino Diatec Trento of Italy had a match with Sesi Sao Paulo of Brazil on Wednesday, October 12. The match was a part of the FIVB Men’s Club World Championship that is currently taking place in Doha, Qatar. The Pool B match-up say the Italian club put
together a excellent win.
The contest between the two sides went on till four long and gruelling sets. The first set of the match was easily bagged by the Brazilians but the Italians gave their opponents tough competition in the second and equalised the match. The third set was also
a close call but the Italians managed to stay on top of the game and went on to win the match at the following final set scores: 18-25, 25-23, 25-23 and 25-21.
The coach of the losing team, Giovane Gavio, made the following comments at the press conference after the match had reached its close: “We didn't expect to play against the second team of Trentino Diactec Trento, that is why I decided to play with some
of the reserves after the first set. Obviously I was thinking of tomorrow's match and wanted to give my main players some rest. I started with the first team because I wanted to win this game, but after the 1-1, I told my players it was better not to extend
the match and think of tomorrow.”
On the other hand, Radostin Stoytchev, the coach of Trentino Diatec Trento, shared his feelings in the following manner: “First of all I would like to thank Murilo for mentioning us as the best team of this competition. I honestly believe they are. It's
a very strong team, which definitely knows how to play.”
The first technical time out of the opening set saw Sesi Sao Paulo take the lead at 8-4 and they were able to extend their advantage to 15-10. The Italians could not do much to stop the onslaught of the Brazilians as they bagged the first set at 25-18.
The second set propelled the Italians into action and they were able to stay on top of the game but as the set reached its close, the Brazilians were able to tie it at 23-23. However, the Italian club prevailed in securing a win at 25-23. The third set went
on a similar pattern as the second with the Italians earning a win at 25-23 again. Starting the fourth set with a two set deficit did not work well for the Brazilians and the Italians were able to win the frame at 25-21.
The player that was able to score the most points was Tsvetan Sokolov of Trentino Diatec as he pulled up a total of 18 points in the entire match. On the other hand, the most active player on the Brazilian side was Sidnei dos Santos Junior who made his presence
felt by tallying a total of 14 points for his team.
