Trentino Diatec Trento sweeps Al-Ahly Cairo: FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship match
The first day of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship started on Saturday, 8th October with teams competing each other in pool matches. Pool play continued to Sunday in Doha, Qatar and one of the contests saw Trentino Diatec Trento
of Italy play with the Al-Ahly Cairo of Egypt in Pool B.
By the time that the day was out, Trentino Diatec Trento was able to end up on the winning side by making a clean sweep over their opponents. The first set of the match was pretty one sided but Al-Ahly Cairo gave the Italians a good challenge in the second
and the third sets. However, the effort of the Egyptians was not enough to stop the Italians from sealing the deal on the match at the following final set scores: 25-16, 25-22 and 25-22.
The coach of the Trentino Diatec Trento club, Radostin Stoytchev, made the following comments about the match at the press conference: “It was a difficult match, and I am happy with the result of 3-0. We didn’t play with our full power, for sure we will
train harder in order to be ready for the next matches. We gathered few weeks ago and most of my players were serving their national teams.”
On the other hand, the coach of the Al-Ahly club, Ibrahim Mohamed, shared his feelings in the following manner: “My players played a great match against a strong team who is a candidate to win this competition. The Italian team had already won this tournament
twice, and they are looking forward to win this tournament for the third time. Thanks for my players for the great effort they did today.”
The first set of the match started off with a 4-2 in favour of Al-Ahly but the Italian club was able to take the advantage by the time the first technical time out came at 8-5. The Egyptians did not let them get too far ahead and stayed close at 13-12 but
the Italians managed to put on a spurt of speed that took them till the end at 25-16.
The second set reached a tie at 7-7 but the Italians found themselves leading at 15-10. The Egyptians stayed close behind but the Italians were able to secure the second set as well at 25-22. The third set too saw the Al-Ahly club fight hard but the Italians
succeeded in a win at 25-22.
Ahmed Mohamed of AL-Ahly was able to top all scorers by putting up a total of 18 points despite the fact that his team lost the match. On the Italian side, Osmany Juantorena led his team by tallying 14 points in the entire match.
