Trentino Diatec Trento sweeps Al-Arabi Doha: World Club Volleyball Championship
A Pool B fixture of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship took place on Tuesday, October 11 between Trentino Diatec Trento of Italy and Al-Arabi Doha of Qatar. The match between the two sides did not take long to reach its close as the Italian
club was able to make a clean sweep over Al-Arabi.
The first set of the match was competitive as the home team put up a good show against the Italians. Both sides stayed neck to neck with each other but as the frame reached its close, Italy was able to come out on the winning end. After the loss of the first
set of the game, the Qatar club could not muster enough confidence to challenge the Italians as a result of which the Italians were able to bag the second set easily. The third set saw Al-Arabi perform better in the start but the Italians were able to secure
the third set and the match at the following final set scores: 25-22, 25-15 and 25-17
The coach of the Trentino Diatec Trento club, Radostin Stoytchev, made the following comments at the press conference after his team had won the match: “I would like to congratulate Al-Arabi with their performance of today. I believe they can play better,
but they didn't have enough time to prepare for this competition. I'm satisfied with the result and also with the quality of our serve, which was very decisive today.”
The coach of the Al-Arabi club, Adel Sennoun, expressed himself in the following manner: “It was a difficult match. We have played three matches within four days, with the same players. Some of them were exhausted, which caused some injuries. One of the
main reasons of our defeat was the incredibly strong serve of the Italians, especially in the second and third set.”
The first set of the match reached a tie at 7-7 but after the two sides came back onto the courts, the Italian club was able to get the lead at 13-12. Before they could stretch the advantage, Al-Arabi tied the score again at 14-14. However, as the match
progressed, it was the Italian club that secured the opening set at 25-22. After the first set win, the second and the third sets came easily at 25-15 and 25-17 respectively.
The player that was able to lead all scorers was Matey Kaziyski of Trentino Diatec Trento who tallied a total of 14 points for his club. On the other hand, the player that was most active on the Al-Arabi squad was Christian Pampel who scored a total of 12
