Trentino Diatec Trento to compete in final of FIVB Men’s Club World Championship
A semi-final match of the FIVB Men’s Club World Championship took place between Trentino Diatec Trento of Italy and Zenit Kazan of Russia on October 13, Thursday in Doha, Qatar.
The competition between the two clubs took four thrilling sets to reach its close. By the time that the day was out, Trentino Diatec Trento was able to earn itself a win and head off into the gold medal match of the championship.
The first and the second sets of the match were fairly even with Trentino Diatec Trento bagging them but the Russian club was able to avoid a clean sweep by securing the third set of the match. However, Zenit Kazan could not take the match to a fifth set
as Trentino Diatec Trento sealed the deal at the following final set scores: 25-22, 25-21, 19-25 and 25-14.
The coach of Trentino Diatec Trento, Radostin Stoytchev, made the following comments at the press conference that was conducted after the match reached its close: “I would like to thank the coach of Kazan for his nice words about my team. I believe they
were capable to win this competition, as much as us. Today's match we had the same opportunities, but we were just a little luckier.”
On the other hand, the coach of the Zenit Kazan club, Vladimir Alenko, expressed himself by making the following statements about the match that his team lost: “There's not much left to say. The Italians have an incredibly strong team, and are just difficult
to play against. I wish them good luck in tomorrow's final.”
The first technical time out came with a Trentino Diatec lead at 8-7. Once they had the lead, the Italian club was able to stick with it to the end of the set at 25-22. The second set progressed much the same way as the first set with Zenit Kazan trailing
close behind but not able to overcome the Italians who bagged another frame at 25-21. The Russian club responded with a third set win but the fourth set was dominated by the Italians who bagged it easily at 25-14.
The player that was able to score the most points in the entire match belonged to Zenit Kazan. Maxim Mikhaylov led all scorers by putting up an impressive number of 25 points for his side while the top player in the Trentino Diatec Trento club was Matey
Kaziyski who made his presence felt by tallying a total of 17 points for his club.
The final match of the tournament will see Trentino Diatec Trento competing with the Jastrzebski Wegiel club while the bronze medal match will take place between Zenit Kazan and Sesi Sao Paulo.
