The gold medal match of the 2011 FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship took place on the Friday, October 14, in Doha, Qatar, between the top teams of the championships, Trentino Diatec Trento of Italy and KS Jastrzebski Wegiel. In a thrilling four
set competition, the Italians were able to get their hands on the gold and win the title for the third time in a row.
The first set of the match was the most competitive as neither club was willing to relent. However, it was bagged impressively by KS Jastrzebski Wegiel. The Italians did not take defeat well and responded by equalising the contest in the second set. Winning
the second set got the Italians going who did not find much difficulty in securing the third set as well. It seemed as if KS Jastrzebski Wegiel had lost their steam as the Italians won the fourth set comfortably as well and sealed the deal on the match at
the following final set scores: 29-31, 25-16, 25-11 and 25-16.
The coach of the Trentino Diatec Trento club, Radostin Stoytchev, expressed himself in the following manner after his team had won the match: “Obviously I'm very happy with this victory. It's an honour to win this championship for the third time. The whole
team and management have really deserved this. Some of our players returned from the national team only 10 days before the start of this championship, which makes this victory even better, with only so little time to prepare.”
On the other hand, coach Lorenzo Bernardi of KS Jastrzebski Wiegel shared his feelings at the press conference after the match: “Unfortunately we weren't able to win this final, but we've have shown some real quality volleyball in the two matches before.”
The Italian club was able to perform better than the Polish club both in blocking as well as service aces. The numbers of blocks that the Italians managed to pull off were 14 while the Polish club could muster only three. On the other hand, the Italians
hit five aces while the Polish club could pull off two of them.
