Tres Borrachos to build on his Breeders’ Cup placed finish in the Native Dancer at Hollywood Park
The 6-year-old gelding Tres Borrachos is slowly getting up there after his unexpected third place finish in the Breeders’ Cup when he finished third to winner Caleb’s Posse in the Grade 1 Dirt Mile over a mile Churchill Downs on 5 November, 2011.
Martin F. Jones trained Tres Borrachos loves racing at Hollywood Park and that is where he has raced most of his races and naturally has come out as a victor more often than not.
The 6-year-old Tres Borrachos is returning to his favourite track at Hollywood Park’s synthetic surface to participate in the Grade 3 Native Diver Handicap at about 1 1/8 miles on 3 December, 2011. The race has reeled in seven three-year-old and up runners
to battle it out for $100,000 purse that the race has to offer.
Tres Borrachos will go into the race as the 119 top weight. Much will be expected from Tres Borrachos from his connections and his fans after his 30 to 1 huge performance in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile.
Prior to the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile, Tres Borrachos raced only once on dirt in the Grade 1 Goodwood Stakes at Santa Anita Park under Joel Rosario. Tres Borrachos finished an unplaced second but it goes to show after a bulk of starts over his favoured synthetic
surface and his manages a placed finish in the toughest race of his career shows how versatile the gelding is.
Owned by George Hicker and Button Stable, Tres Borrachos was sent as the 8 to 1 to win the Grade 2 San Diego Handicap over at Del Mar’s synthetic surface on 30 July, 2011, for his new trainer Marty Jones.
Since acquiring the experienced gelding, Marty Jones has done some good work on his and as a result he is showing good results in important races.
The Kentucky bred son of Ecton Park, out of mare Pete’s Fancy by Peteski, Tres Borrachos out of 34 lifetime starts has gone on to win just four, but out of the 4 wins, 3 of them have come at Hollywood Park’s synthetic surface.
