Tres Borrachos to repeat past glory on his favourite Hollywood Park surface in the Native Diver Handicap
Trained by Martin F. Jones for owners C. Beau Greely and Scott Houchens, 6-year-old gelding Tres Borrachos has been getting better race after race especially after his third place finish in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile to winner Caleb’s Posse and second placed Shackleford at Churchill Downs on 5 November, 2011.
The Kentucky bred veteran, Tres Borrachos is going back to Hollywood Park to participate in the Grade 3 Native Diver Handicap to be held on 3 December, 2011, over the venue’s synthetic surface at about 1 1/8 miles against seven other 3-year-old and above males.
The son of Ecton Park, out of mare Pete’s Fancy by Peteski, Tres Borrachos has a history of past success at Hollywood Park, and he is expected to do well again this year there.
“He worked great yesterday, and he’s run well on this track,” said trainer Marty Jones when the 6-year-old gelding impressed his trainer after covering five furlongs in 1 minute and 2.50 seconds on 27 November, 2011.
The 6-year-old Tres Borrachos has run 34 times in 5 years of racing, and out of those he has managed to land four races. Three out of those four have come at Hollywood Park’s synthetic surface.
Back in 2008, the experienced gelding managed to land the Grade 2 Swaps Stakes over at 1 1/8 miles under T Baze, while defeating the likes of Two Step Salsa in second and Colonel John in third with the winning time of 1 minute and 49.29 seconds.
His next win over the Hollywood Park’s synthetic surface was in an allowance claimer on 25 May, 2009 under Joe Talamo which he managed to cover in 1 minute and 41.46 seconds.
Tres Borrachos this year broke the cycle as he won a race at Del Mar rather than Hollywood Park. He won the Grade 2 San Diego Handicap over at 1 1/16 miles on synthetic surface on 30 July, 2011.
Downed the likes of Kevlar Kid and Spurrier to top the 1 1/16 mile distance in 1 minute and 42.71 seconds.
This time around he will be up for his favoured surface to take his Hollywood Park tally up to four.
