Trescothick set to test his recovery with second XI – Cricket News Update
Somerset’s regular skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marcus-Trescothick-c1898, recovering from the ankle surgery, is all set to test his recovery in a three-day game with Somerset second XI, against Essex, at Coggeshall Cricket Club Ground, next week.
“I saw my surgeon on Monday and he was happy with the way things are progressing, so it's time to put my recovery to the test,” said the Somerset opener. “In second XI fixtures you are allowed to name 12 players, so I might not take a full part in the three-day
game,” he added further.
The 36-year-old former England batsman underwent a surgery on the tendon in his right ankle in late April. The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nottinghamshire-c826, at Trent Bridge,
in April this year. Initially scans revealed a torn tendon, but during the surgery it was discovered that it was actually ruptured. The surgery sidelined the Somerset skipper for at least two months of the season.
During the more than two month long injury layoff, the left-handed top order batsman missed the entire group stage of the Friends Life T20 tournament, which his side finished as Midlands/Wales/West Group leaders. However, he is eying a comeback in the knockout
stages, where Somerset will play http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Essex-c783, at Taunton, on July 24, 2012 in the first quarterfinal of the competition.
“The quarter-final might come a bit too quickly for me, but everything will depend on how things go in the second XI,” said Trescothick, who played 76 Tests and 123 One Day Internationals for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, during an international career spanning six years.
“But if all goes well I'll play as much of it as possible and in the one-day on the Friday. Then I will have a good idea how things stand,” the injured skipper maintained.
In his absence, South African fast bowler http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alfonso-Thomas-c991 has been leading the side. Though the county managed to finish the group stage of the Flt20 competition without its regular skipper, Trescothick’s return in the knockout stages will be a real boost
for them.
Somerset second XI's three-day fixture at the club ground, which gets underway on Tuesday, July 17, will be followed by a one-day enounter at the same venue on Friday.
