Sony Computer Entertainment President will not let talk about the PlayStation 4 distract him from launching the company’s latest product in the United States.
Many will know Jack Tretton as the person who has taken centre stage in nearly every Sony Press Conference at E3 in recent years. It is almost a certainty that he will reprise that role at this year’s event as well, but for the moment the SCE President and
CEO is making the headlines for another reason.
Mr. Tretton threw a considerable amount of water on the flames that were burning regarding the PlayStation 4. In a recent interview the Sony executive explained that the PlayStation 3 still had considerable life in it and it was too soon for them to announce
anything relating to the next generation console.
“In terms of when you talk about [the next generation] and when you announce it, it really depends on the health of the existing platform and the other things you have going on.”
By ‘other things’ Tretton meant the PlayStation Vita, which is days away from its North American release.
“And right now, we’re focused on PlayStation 3, and I’ve got another platform (PlayStation Vita) to get out the door in seven days, so I don’t want to be thinking about trying to launch new technology anytime soon.” He continued, “I want to focus all our
energy on our console business, which is really just hitting its stride, and Vita, which really deserves a dedicated push from us.”
The SCE President also claimed that he would find giving the PlayStation 4 any attention during this time would be a distraction for him. Those words seem to make sense as Sony will want to ensure that the PlayStation Vita gets off to a better start in the
US as compared to its poor opening in Japan.
The console has seen sales figures drop over the weeks as the PlayStation 3 and Nintendo 3DS continue to outsell the second generation gaming console.
However, a number of reports on the internet are claiming that the PlayStation 4 will be revealed at this year’s E3 but the way a number of Sony executives are denying that possibility all one can do is hope of a hint of what one can expect for the years
to come.
