Trevor Bayliss slams the Sri Lankan cricket officials for off-field distractions – Cricket News
Sri Lanka’s outgoing coach Trevor Bayliss has slammed the Sri Lankan cricket management and said that the players in the team have to face a lot of distractions off the field.
Bayliss is one of those many important people who have called it a day after the defeat against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 last week. Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene and the whole selection committee has resigned from their
respective posts after the World Cup. However, Sangakkara will keep on leading the team in Test cricket.
Bayliss was given the charge of the Sri Lankan team after the World Cup 2007 and they have done well in international cricket since then.
The Australian feels that it is a shame for Sri Lanka that Sangakkara and Jayawardene are avoiding additional responsibilities, but he blamed the Sri Lankan cricket officials for that. He said that both the senior players had to look after many other matters
apart from the sport itself and they deserve a break.
Bayliss said, "I think it's a shame. They are the best two guys to take Sri Lanka forward. They probably had enough of putting up with distractions. These days the role of a captain has to deal with issues that sometimes have got nothing to do with cricket.
They have done a great service to Sri Lanka. I guess they deserve a break."
The former coach also praised the all-rounder Angelo Mathews and believes that he is someone who can lead http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in the future because of the brilliant temperament he has. However, Bayliss feels that he should be allowed to gain more experience as a player
for another two years.
"I think 23-year-old Mathews could be a future captain of Sri Lanka. Maybe a couple of years for him at the international level would do well to get some confidence first, before adding on the responsibility as captain," former Sri Lankan coach added.
Credit goes to the Sri Lankan cricketers that they have done extremely well in international cricket even with all the controversies surrounding them off the field. Such has been the performance of the team that they reached the final of the World Cup on
consecutive occasions in 2007 and 2011.
