http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Trevor-Victor-Hohns-c94397 unhappy with the size of contract list – Cricket News Update
Following his recent resumption of services as Queensland’s Talent manager and Selection Chairman, Trevor Hohns, revealed that that he was not pleased with the size of the contract list in 2006, when the former Australian Test cricketer held the post as
the Chairman of Selectors.
According to reports, Hohns cited that the official was unhappy with the contracting system and that the size of 25 is too much and should have been made more flexible depending on the Australian team’s schedule.
“We had plenty of depth then (pre-2006), but I’m not sure that 25 is the right number. I must admit I was always saying that (as chairman),” said Hohns. “But that was the deal that was done and we had to work with it. To have 25 seems a lot to me, and I
think the players’ association and CA need to be a bit flexible on this, we’re going through different times and I think it does need a little bit of tweaking”.
Hohns also added that the national contract system needs many adjustments especially with respect to different cricketing formats stating that there are several lines of thought, and whether the system should be more incentive based for those that 'play
get the pay', and whether T20 cricket should have separate contracts, but at the same time, also believed that the national contract system should pay more heed to the Test cricket.
Hohns’ recent inclusion as Queensland’s Talent manager and Selection Chairman came as part of the ongoing overhauling on the country’s national cricketing board as well as on the team; all intended towards reviving Australia’s previous world rankings, in
all formats of cricket.
The official’s re-entry into the cricketing fraternity came with complements to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Darren-Scott-Lehmann-c52487, Queensland’s state coach, thanks to who, Hohns has now resumed his services as Queensland’s state talent manager and selection chairman.
However, Hohns inclusion also comes due to an impressive bag of experience the former cricketer earned during his 13 years of service on the country’s panel, out which most as the selector. As for now, Hohns will be working closely with Australia’s national
talent manager and selector, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gregory-Stephen-Chappell-c60820.
