Trevor Murphy retains the lead after rain-plagued second round at the Tour’s Nationwide Children's Hospital Invitational
American Trevor Murphy seized a two-shot lead before darkness halted the second round of the rain-plagued Web.com Tour’s Nationwide Children's Hospital Invitational on Friday.
Murphy remained on top of the leaderboard after recording two birdies against a lone bogey. After registering a par on the 11th hole, he trudged back to the clubhouse because of the darkness that enveloped The OSU Golf Club.
When the second round resumes on Saturday morning, Murphy will be chasing his first ever Web.com Tour title. It is a terrific opportunity for the University of North Carolina graduate, who is playing only his second Web.com Tour event of the season.
He participated in the Utah Championship presented by Utah Sports Commission, a fortnight ago and tied for the 22nd position.
Ben Kohles, Casey Wittenberg and Joseph Bramlett managed to complete their rounds and shared the second spot with a seven-under par two-round score.
Among them, Bramlett had the most interesting performance, as he pared each of the holes on the back nine prior to registering six birdies on the first seven holes on the front nine.
"I get on runs occasionally. I don't know how to describe," he said. "You never know when they're coming but when things line up, you start hitting it well and you start rolling it well".
However, he lost the momentum on the 17th hole when he utilised three putts for the only bogey of his round. The very next hole saw him miss another birdie chance and he remained in the share of the second position.
According to him, he was a little disappointed when he failed to end the round on a high note. Yet, he told that he was happy with his overall performance in the opening two rounds that put him in contention while entering the weekend.
"Anytime you miss a couple of putts at the end it gets under your skin for about 15 minutes after the round, but then you get over it," he said. "In the big picture, everything was real solid. A lot of positives for the weekend".
The second round will now resume at 7:30 am local time on Saturday.
