Trevor Plouffe’s dominant performance helps Minnesota Twins rout Boston Red Sox 9-2 – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins’ short-stop Trevor Plouffe was outstanding throughout the game as he hit a solo homer and made three runs in the Twins’ 9-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park in Boston on May 6.
Plouffe expressed his excitement as, “There's really no way to prepare for a guy like Tim. That's not really what I was trying to do, to be honest with you, with two strikes against him. He got a pitch up and there was a little jet stream going out there,
so it was nice.”
Plouffe gave the initial run to the Twins by striking a home-run in the first inning and took the lead 1-0. The Red Sox were scoreless during the first inning. Twins’ Manager Ron Gardenhire said of Plouffe, “During BP he was fired up and ready to go. He
was excited to be out there. It wasn't a nervous excitement. He was fired up to be back in the big leagues and he went out and played like it.”
The Twins posted three runs in the second inning on loaded bases. Drew Butera singled on a fly-ball while Plouffe scored two runs on the grounder of Denard Span. During the second inning, J.D. Drew opened the Red Sox scoring account by hitting a one-run
homer and moved the scorecard to 4-1.
The third inning passed without any score. In the fourth inning, Adrian Gonzalez hit a homer and cut the deficit to 4-2. The fifth inning was full of scoring opportunities for the Twins while the Red Sox failed to make any run. Danny Valencia drove a shot
and completed a double run. Michael Cuddyer also scored two runs in the fifth inning on the grounder of Butera. The errors made by the Red Sox short-stop Jed Lowrie provided four runs to the Twins and they extended their lead 8-2.
Plouffe scored his third run on the error of Lowrie again who failed to throw from home plate. As a result, the Twins reached 9-2 in the sixth inning. The rest of the innings were scoreless for both sides.
The Twins’ starter Scott Baker pitched brilliantly as he threw eight innings and gave away just two runs on seven hits with eight strike-outs.
