Trey Hardee concerned about defending World Championships title – Athletics news
The primary feature of sports that lures sportsmen towards them is not only the consequent health benefits, rather, it is also the money and fame attached to the game they are associated with. Perhaps this is the reason that instead of striving for emerging
in each and every game they are invited to, athletes usually put their efforts in preparing themselves for the bigger and major challenges that can cherish their dominance in the game on a larger platform.
Recently, this phenomenon was observed again when Trey Hardee, the 27-year-old track and field athlete from America, who specialises in decathlon, denied to appear at the 2011 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships as he wanted to stay focused on his preparations
for the upcoming Daegu World Championships.
Unlike his team-mates Bryan Clay and Ashton Eaton, who will contest in the event for securing their place at the World championships to be organised by the last week of August, Hardee has already secured his place in the meet. All that he needs to do now
is to appear and contest in any of the event at the National championships, kicking-off from this weekend.
For being through this situation for the first time, when he is not in USA Outdoors despite of being physically fit, the Alabama native said, “I’ve never been to USA Outdoors without doing the decathlon before, I’m going to see all the decathletes out there
doing their thing and getting to hang out with one another and compete, and I’m probably going to miss it a little bit.”
The top finisher of the 2005 NCCA Championships is not missing out the entire event, rather, he is focusing only on a couple of meets and taking them as a part of his training for the Daegu event. According to news, instead of the entire two-day event, now
he will only contest in the Long Jump and Hurdle categories. The reason for doing so is pretty obvious, as he wants to escape the fatigue of a long event that may leave him all tired.
Commenting upon his decision to skip the decathlon, Hardee said, “A decathlon kind of takes a lot out of you, instead of pretty much setting myself back in training, we’re going to use the competition as training and get to compete against some of the best
long jumpers in the world and the best hurdles in world.”
For an athlete like Hardee, skipping out the Outdoors decathlon competition is rather a big thing. What remains to be seen is that whether this sacrifice of the athlete helps him in keeping his momentum and rhythm for the big event in Daegu.
