Tri–Nation Tournament in Scotland to take off today - Sri Lanka, Ireland and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756 participate – Cricket News Update
The Tri- nation tournament involving Sri Lanka, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 and Ireland, at Grange Cricket club Ground, Edinburg, July 11, 2011.
Sri Lanka, the strongest of the three teams, will be looking to bounce back from their defeat against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, where they were narrowly beaten 3-2 in the recently concluded NatWest One-Day series.
Ireland, the second best side in the tournament (at least on paper) will be hoping to count on their players who have recently performed in the English domestic circuit, in order to overpower the Asian http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808 and Scottish side.
As for the hosts of the tournament, Scotland, they will be hoping to use their home conditions to good effect, gaining valuable experience and in the process, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Try-c94438 to cause an upset.
It is a three day tournament where both the visiting team will play the first match. The second match will see Scotland taking on the Irish which is sort of a derby. The tournament concludes with the host taking on Sri Lanka on the 13th of the month.
All the matches will be played at the Grande Cricket Club, formerly known as the Raeburn Place, the City lets Grande. The ground holds capacity of 5000 and is a beautiful stadium used for other sports as well.
As for the squads, all teams are at full strength and all the players will be aiming to perform well.
For Sri Lanka, it will be a good opportunity for their captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tillakaratne-Mudiyanselage-Dilshan-c93947, to get some runs under his belt, especially given his poor performance against England in the five-match ODI series, scoring 17 runs at a miserable average of 3.4.
This also led him to slip down in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 batting ranking by six places, to number 9.
As for the Irish, they will be hoping for some heroics from their star all-rounder, Kevin O’ Brien, who has exhibited fine form for the county side http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gloucestershire-c785.
While they have a full squad to choose from, the only player to have previously played at the Grange ground is http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gary-Craig-Wilson-c58487.
As for the Scottish, they have made a few changes, bringing in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Simon-David-Smith-c90329.
Both, the Scottish and the Irish will have a point to prove as a good showing will reflect positively on ICC’s decision regarding their inclusion in the next World Cup, in 2015.
