Trial tour an opportunity to develop professionally: de Winter – Cricket News Update
Recently appointed interim Australian bowling coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Allister-John-de-Winter-c43773, has insisted that he is focusing on keeping the pressure of a trial tour off himself, as he looks to treat the chance as an opportunity for professional development.
“I'm looking at the trip at the moment as purely an opportunity to professionally develop rather than feel the pressure of being on trial ... I'm just trying not to put too much pressure on myself,” he said.
De Winter is among the potential candidates being considered for the post of bowing coach which was vacated last month by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Waqar-Younis-Maitla-c96193.
McDermott stepped down in May this year after having served as the national team’s bowling coach for a year, stating that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s busy schedule in the coming season was the reason behind his decision.
While Younis has also expressed interest in the recently vacated position, and has reportedly been interviewed by Cricket Australia's team performance manager Pat http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Howard-c63371, de Winter appears to have obtained a head start – he has been appointed a temporary bowling coach for the squad as they prepare for their upcoming ODI tour of England, which will serve as a trial.
“I've expressed my interest and I believe I'm through to the next stage. It sounds like they will start doing formal interviews in the third week of July,” de Winter said.
The tour, which kicks off on June 23, features a 5-match ODI series against England, and a single ODI against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751. Unlike McDermott, who had 291 Test wickets to his credit, de Winter only has 21 First-class and 10 List A matches to his name.
However, he has been a part of the national squad before, during a 2009 tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, as a member of the off-field team. In addition, he is currently serving as assistant coach of the Tasmanian Tigers, head coach of the T20 team Hobart Hurricanes, and has played a pivotal part in guiding pacer Ben Hilfenhaus back to the international cricket arena.
The 44-year-old expressed his intent to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013.
