Triathlon Bike?

Question

I have just completed my first season in triathlon, i loved it, but got a little pissed off with the amount of times that some of the other competitors WHIPPED passed on their time trial style bikes. I have been fortunate enough to have about £1700 to spend on a new bike for next season, thus has anyone got any suggestions of models that combine great looks and performance with a sound price. thanks.

I'm also a big Cervelo fan and that would be my first choice. Other possibilities are Quintana Roo, Kuota, Scott, and Argon.

If you check around you'll find the bike is not the easiest (or cheapest) way to save seconds. For most riders, a TT helmet will save more time than a fancy TT bike. But, if you get both you'll do even better!

I am assuming you have a road bike and you are hoping a TT bike will give you an advantage next year.  

If this is correct, you may want to take a look at some information on the Saris website.  While they are attempting to sell you on the advantages of training with a power meter like their Power Tap system, they have some numbers on the advantages of riding in a proper aerodynamic position.

According to the study they quote, riding on the drops rather than the brake hoods can save 3-5 minutes in a 40K time trial.  So, the question is, are you riding on the drops or the brake hoods?  

As I read the numbers quote, riding in a proper down position on an aero bike with TT handlebars helps only slightly more.

In any case, if you need a new bike, you need a new bike.  When it comes to TT bikes, it is my belief that no one provides more value for the money than Cervelo.

I really like my Felt B2.  But the most important thing about the bike is fit.  You need to go to a bike store that knows about fitting tri bikes and go with the brand that fits you best.  most bike manufactures have a range of models in various price ranges.
