Does anyone know if Tricare (Prime) covers the cystic fibrosis blood test thing during pregnancy? I tried calling them and the lady told me to get a code before she could tell me? Has anyone had it done and its covered?

  1. i have tricare prime, and called about this test. the guy told me that unless there a history of it in either you or your husband's side of the family, then they did not pay for the tests.

  2. If your Dr is referring you out for this blood test, call the place where the blood test is to happen and ask for the HCPC or CPT code.  Then, call Tricare Prime's auth department and ask if that code is covered.  If you are referred by your primary Dr for this test, it should be covered, but the best way to know is to get a code directly from the providing office and ask Tricare.

    Good Luck!

  3. Are you a military spouse covered under Tricare Prime? If so, then yes it should definately be covered.

  4. I have tricare and they have covered ALL costs so far. As long as it is routine testing don't worry. Good luck!!

Also try looking at www.tricareonline.com, I use that a lot to check on whether things are covered.

  5. I was asked on my 2nd appt (weeks 10-12) if I wanted to do Cystic Fibrosis and Downs Syndrome blood tests. There is no history in either my or my husband's family for either of these conditions.

Tricare should cover it. You need to sign papers giving your consent to do these tests.

You need to call your OB (or midwife, whatever).
