Ok , pretend you are lost in a big forest and there's a path going 2 ways, and on one end of that path is village A and on the other side of the path is village B. village A always tells the truth and village B always lies. You need to get to village A quickly because it's getting dark. Then someone appears out of nowhere, you don't know if he's from village A or B and you can only ask him one question. So if you could only ask him one question on how to get to village A, what would it be?

  1. "Which way does your village go?" Is what I'd ask!

  2. If I asked "Which direction is Village A," then what would a person from the village that you are not in say?

  3. You can ask:

"If I asked a member of the village you don't belong to which road I should take to get to village A, what would he say?"

Because the Truth person would say the opposite one (because the other village lies), and the liar would say the opposite one (because they always lie). So either way you would just do the opposite of what they say.

  4. Just ask "Which way to your village?" and either will point to Village A.

  5. ask him  which path he came from. the true  village "a" direction can be the only answer regardless where he came from.

  6. uuuh, i've heard that before, but i can't remember the question, i think it's something like: if a member of an other village came, would he lie, that that path goes there...

either something like that or i'm nuts

  7. Ooh, fun question. I think this is a variation on another similar brainteaser. Anyway...

You should ask him, "Which way goes to your village?" If he is from Village A he will point you in the direction of Village A. If he is from Village B he will lie and point you in the direction of Village B.

So, both ways, you will get directed to the path that heads to Village A.
