Trickmeister first choice for Richard Dutrow in the Harlan’s Holiday after his lengthy layoff
Richard Dutrow will give horse racing fans another opportunity to stay interested in the dying stages of the 2011 season when he unveils his unbeaten 4-year-old colt , Trickmeister, to run in the Harlan’s Holiday at Gulfstream Park on 17 December, 2011,
at about 1 1/16 miles on dirt, a race open for 3-year-olds and above.
The Kentucky bred son of Proud Citizen, out of mare Afternoon Trick by Afternoon Deelites, Trickmeister, will return to the races after an absence of 16 months and his first race after all that time will be the $60,000 Harlan’s Holiday Stakes.
The Harlan’s Holiday for an overnight stakes has done well to lure the cast it has reeled in. The multiple graded stakes winner, Duke of Mischief, will also feature the race after his disappointing 10th place finish in the Grade 1 Whitney Handicap
back in August this season.
Out of 5 starts, the son of Graeme Hall, out of mare My Lady Amelia by Real Courage, Duke of Mischief managed a single win in the entire 2011 season. The win came in his third start of the season in the Grade 3 Charles Town Classic.
He defeated the likes of Game on Dude in second and Tizway in third. It was a massive race for Duke of Mischief and to defeat such a heavily start studded cast is doing something and a quality horse can come up with that kind of a performance.
He downed the 1 1/8 miles in the Charles Town Classic in 1 minute and 51.13 seconds under J Bravo on 16 April, 2011.
Trickmeister on the other hand is making a comeback after a long layoff, and he will be looking to keep his unbeaten record intact.
“I want to run Trickmeister,” trainer Rick Dutrow Jr. said. “ ‘Boys’ is only in there in case something happens to Trickmeister.”
“He had cannon bone issues following the race at Saratoga, then suffered a cracked tibia after we put him back in training again here last winter,” Dutrow said. “But he’s been in a zone since he’s come back from his second layoff.”
