Trickmeister pointed toward the Donn Handicap after an easy win in the Harlan’s Holiday
The undefeated 4-year-old colt, Trickmeister, came out of his easy win in the Harlan’s Holiday in good order reported trained Richard Dutrow Jr. The IEAH Stables owned 4-year-old colt enjoyed a perfect return to the races after being sidelined for 16 months
in the 1 1/16 mile test, where he downed the likes of Our Dark Knight at second and Sky Venture in third, while topping the distance in 1 minute and 42.63 seconds.
In the process, the Kentucky bred son of Proud Citizen, out of mare Afternoon Trick by Afternoon Deelites, Trickmeister earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 96 in his fifth win in as many starts.
“He looks good and may have come back a little tired, which I would have hoped and expected after the long layoff,” said Dutrow.
Dutrow was referring to the 16 month long layoff that Trickmeister had to endure due to injury, and he hasn’t raced a single race since winning the Pleasant Colony Stakes at Saratoga on 27 August, 2010, under Garrett Gomez over a distance of 1 1/8 miles.
On that day, Trickmeister defeated the likes of Our Dark Knight, yet again in second place and Regal Warrior in third, as Trickmeister went on to run down the 1 1/8 mile distance in 1 minute and 48.91 seconds.
“I couldn’t have hoped for anything more from him on Saturday. We’ve been waiting so long to watch him run again and to see him perform like that was all good. I saw exactly what I wanted and heard exactly what I wanted to hear coming out of the race. Right
now we’re looking ahead to pointing him for the Donn.”
As a 5-year-old, Trickmeister will start his 2012 campaign in the Grade 1 Donn Handicap on 11 February, 2012, rum over a distance of 1 1/8 miles over at Gulfstream Park’s dirt course.
There is every possibility that, Trickmeister, for the first time will face off with the experienced veteran, Flat Out, who is also pointed toward the Donn Handicap and the third vague entry of the race will be, the Grade 1 Preakness Stakes winner, Shackleford.
