Tricky draws for natives in Yonex Sunrise India Open 2012 – Badminton Update
The Indian ladies will definitely enjoy the benefits of home ground but at the same time they have received tough draws in Yonex Sunrise India Open which will be in full swing from April 24, 2012.
Indian Open is going to be the last badminton tournament before the end of the Olympic qualification period in May so every shuttler who wants to earn some valuable ranking points will be their swinging arms to make the best out of this last chance.
The prime female pair of Jwala Gutta-Ashwini Ponnappa will strive to land on the podium in Women’s Doubles event but they have a tough first round where they will meet the Hong Kong duo Poon Lok Yan-Tse Ying Suet.
Seasoned member of the team Jwala Gutta is in high spirits to repeat the history by stamping their rivals in home event also and raise their chances for the 2012 London Olympics.
She said, "Draws are never easy but that has never bothered us. We have beaten them before and I am quite confident, we can beat them at the Indian Open."
Jwala is also shouldering her responsibility in Mixed Doubles event with her partner V. Diju and their chemistry will be tested in their opening match straight away as the World Number 16 pair is meeting Chinese couple Jiaming Tao-Huan Xia.
However, Jwala looked confident when she claimed that they are capable of winning the crucial matches.
She said, "Our job is not to crib and take pressure. But rather play and win matches. We know we are capable of doing much better. So we are only concentrating on our games."
On the other hand, India’s biggest stake will be in Women’s Singles event where its World Number five shuttler Saina Nehwal is representing the country.
The badminton queen is subjected in a tough trial as she will start her race against Yip Pui Yin who she has outclassed three times in past meetings. However, the Hong Kong shuttler also overwhelmed Saina in Asian Games quarter-finals in 2010 so it will
be a tight contest.
Next challenge awaits her in the quarter-finals where former All-England Champion Tine Baun will be up against Saina and if the Indian girl proceeds she will face Chinese nemesis Shixian Wang in the finals of India Open 2012.
