  1. have them play sharks and minnows except call it nuts and squirrels. or duck duck goose and call it squirrel squirrel nut.

  2. large motor;  pitch nut shaped bean bags into opening or box used as the squirrels' tree/nest.  pin the nut on the squirrels' mouth - paper or felt nuts go to a large poster squirrel face on a wall  or felt board.

  3. Read A Squirrel's Tale to the kids!  This book from Usborne Books teaches fine motor skills, since there is a small squirrel that fits through slots on each page.  Kids learn that reading is from left to right, since that is the progression of each page.  Check it out at http://www.ubah.com.g2687

  4. For some large motor skills you can hide nuts and acorns  around the room or if it is nice, outside and have the children pretend to be squirrels venturing for food to eat, like a squirrel does.

Before this though, you could find maybe a book on squirrels which mentions what they eat and how they have to look for the food. If not, then you can just talk about it with them before the activity.

  5. the website http://www.preschooleducation.com has some great ideas on almost anything. I'm sure you'd be able to find something on squirrels. Also try http://www.perpetualpreschool.com Hope this helps
