Triin Aljand conquers Women's 50m freestyle gold: Day three - 2011 Austrian Qualifying Meet
Triin Aljand of Estonia conquered the title of Women's 50m freestyle on day three of the 2011 Austrian Short Course Qualifying Meet on Sunday, November 27 in Vienna New Town, Austria.
The 26-year-old Aljand displayed her phenomenal efforts and claimed the crown of freestyle discipline by clocking a time of 24.70 seconds. Her gold wining effort was just 0.06 seconds away from the meet record of 24.64 seconds, made by Aljand in 2010.
The gold medallist remained 0.47 seconds ahead of Erica Ferraioli of Italy, who reached the podium for silver medal with an effort of 25.17 seconds.
The 25-year-old Ferraioli overwhelmed the efforts of her team-mate, Erica Buratto, who was 0.17 seconds slower than her and stepped on the podium for bronze medal with an effort of 25.34 seconds.
Buratto was trailed by Sandra Kazikova of Czech, who stayed 0.27 seconds slower from her and hit the wall with a timing of 25.61 seconds for fourth position. The fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Burcu Dolunay of Turkey, who was 0.22 seconds behind and concluded her swim in a time of 25.83 seconds.
The 27-year-old Dolunay edged out her following swimmer Aneta Pechancova of Czech, with a difference of 0.03 seconds. The 19-year-old Pechancova emerged on the finishing wall with a sixth fastest timing of 25.86 seconds. She was followed by her team-member Jana Bukovanova, who stayed 0.65 seconds behind and submitted a time of 26.51 seconds for seventh position.
Moments later, Randall Bal of USA claimed the title of equivalent event in Men's category. The 31-year-old Bal posted a time of 22.49 seconds for gold medal. He was chased by Martin Spitzer of Austria, who earned the silver medal by posting a time of 22.72 seconds.
Spitzer remained 0.56 seconds ahead of Marco Macciola of Italy, who stepped on the podium for bronze medal with the timing of 23.28 seconds. The fourth fastest spot was secured by Michal Rubacek of Czech, who submitted an effort of 23.53 seconds.
The session completed after the conclusion of all listed events while the winners received their medals after the completion of championship.
