There is ONLY one way to do this...no shortcuts.

You have to follow the papertrail of the men in your family who carry that name. You're going to start with birth certificates, marriage licenses, death records in both county buildings where they lived and in the churches where they worshipped. You can't skip a generation and you can't skip a document. If you don't know when they changed the spelling...and how...then you have to follow the papertrail.

When you get back to the original Kuproski who came to the US, carefully watch his census records, military draft records, marriage license, etc. Then use that information to find him on passenger lists. The only way you know you have the right one, if the name has changed after he arrived, is to triangulate the records with dates, spouses, siblings, place of birth, etc. Understand that the passenger records were NOT written by your ancestors, they were written by clerks on the ships using passports issued before they left Poland.
