what does "De facto " mean?

"de facto step-father

de facto grandmother

  1. de facto usually means not officially established - for instance if in a workplace the boss leaves the person next in line of seniority becomes the head (but only in practice not officially appointed)- a de facto step father or de facto grandmother im assuming means someone who act in that capacity (grandmother/father etc ) but isnt related by blood.........

    But in Trini De facto means -  the facts eg. de facto stepfather means - the facts is de man is de stepdaddyo
