Trinidad & Tobago Coach Kelvin Williams blames batting department – Cricket               News Update
Caribbean outfit, Trinidad & Tobago’s (T&T) Coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kelvin-Claudius-Williams-c70744, has blamed his team’s batting department for failing to offer an imposing show during the just concluded Regional Super50 tournament final against Jamaica, where the Daren Ganga led squad
suffered a disappointing 5 wickets defeat.
In his recent interview with Newsday, Coach Williams slammed his side for not clicking as a batting unit, having piled up an accessible chase for Jamaica.
“Poor conditions and the shot selection was quite poor as well hence the reason for the 118. We could have curbed (our attacking) a bit more but some batsmen tried to go over the top,” said http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Williams-c98034.
“It would have taken a humongous effort from the bowlers and backed up by the fielders. At one time when they were four wickets down, there was a glimmer of hope but two partnerships developed and that broke our backs,” the Coach added.
During the tournament finale, T&T Captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Daren-Ganga-c52410, won the toss and opted to bat first at the Providence Stadium in Guyana, but to his despair, the side crawled on to suffering 4 early wickets, before reaching the 15 overs mark.
However, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jason-Nazimuddin-Mohammed-c66460 settling into a worthy partnership, nothing seemed to be working for the wicket-marred batting side; which suffered another swift blow of stumps, thanks to Nikita Miller’s prime damage to the opponent, reducing
T&T to score a poor tally of 118 runs in 46.1 overs.
On the other hand, with Chris Gayle’s Jamaican line-up suffering two early wickets, the team took no time to recoup from the loss – complements to middle order players, who led the roster past the chase in 35.5 overs; earning the 2011 Regional Super50 tournament
title.
As for Williams, the Coach did admit that his side retained an imposing performance throughout the event, despite losing their ground on the finale.
The final match’s defeat came as the second loss for T&T, from their 5 outings on the Super50 competition.
During the group stage mahttp://www.senore.com/Cricket/Thomas-George-Burrows-c93472ches, T&T was handed over a 5 wickets defeat by the Combined Colleges and Campuses team, but the side made an imposing comeback, marking a clean sheet on their remaining group fixtures.
