Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board pulled its team out of the Tri-Nation Tournament in Canada – Cricket News Update
Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) is struck by the serious lack of funds which has forced the chairman to pull out its team from the Tri-Nations Tournament in Canada.
The board had planned its team’s participation in two warm up events before the Champion’s League T20 in India, starting from September. First warm-up event was the Tri-Nations Tournament, scheduled to begin in Canada from 11th August, 2011 and
second one is a four-team warm-up tournament scheduled to be held in Spain in late August.
Trinidad and Tobago team’s preparations for the Champion’s League were at its peak and the players were excited to contest big team in India. As many strong first class teams including http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823 will be the part of this league,
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Thomas-George-Burrows-c93472he T&T needed to be very well prepared.
As per plans, the team would have had ample experience and preparations before the big event but shortage of finances has put the preparations in jeopardy.
The TTCB chairman of selectors Dudnath Ramkessoon confirmed yesterday on July 29, that the team has opted out of the tri-nations tournament in Canada. It is a serious blow to the practice and preparatory efforts because T&T would have gotten a chance to
play against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Afghanistan-c745.
Afghanistan won the intercontinental cup 2010 and also participated in T20 World Cup 2010. It would have been a great learning experience for the Trinidad and Tobago team which will miss out the tournament due to lack of funds.
Ramkessoon said that to send the team to Toronto, Canada, approximately $300,000 is required but the board does not have it.
The chairman added, “It is certainly a setback not to be able to go to this tournament. It would have been good preparation for the guys to play against international opponents and it would have given us a chance to see the players in a highly competitive
game, but now we have to try and put things in place to fill the void”.
Although the crunch has jeopardized the preparations but still the chairman Ramkessoon is confident that they would sort out ways to give their team practice opportunities. The Preparation Committee is scheduled to meet on Wednesday, August 3 to ponder upon
the viable options.
