Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board’s National League likely to be restructured – Cricket News Update
The Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board’s (TCB) National League tournaments are likely to be revamped with the inclusion of two more teams, once the proposal is approved in the quarterly meeting of the board’s bosses, on July 23, 2011, at the National Cricket
Centre.
The proposal, presented by the restructuring committee, has already been jointly accepted by the local clubs and the TTCB is also expected to give its consent to the much-wanted process of change in the old-fashioned competitions.
As per the new structure, a total of 42 clubs will participate in the competitions. Three championship zones are likely to be formed and each zone will include 10 clubs. The proposed names of the zones will be East and North-East, North and Central and South-East
and South-West.
Unlike the 7-match seasons in the past, the teams from each of the zones will have to play 11-match seasons after the restructuring of the league.
The Tobago club is also likely to be included in the Championship Division.
All these proposals were passed in the meeting of Movement for Change on Wednesday, at the National Cricket Centre. The meeting was attended by the delegates from all local zones and clubs.
The incumbent leader of the Movement for Change is Azim Bassarath, the president of the TTCB. As the elections for the next tenure of the national executive are going to be held soon, Azim wants to fabricate his election campaign around the slogan of change.
During the last elections of 2009, the Movement of Change was accused of granting hefty incentives to the local clubs to purchase their votes. However, Azim, who ousted the then TTCB president, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Deryck-Lance-Murray-c53814, denied these allegations and termed the process
to be fair.
Some analysts argue that the bosses of the Movement are struggling to win the election again in the garb of change agents and there is going to be no change at all.
However, talking to the media today, Azim claimed “We will not base our campaign for re-election on lies and innuendo but on the solid track record of our accomplishments.”
