Trinidad and Tobago lift the Caribbean Twenty20 trophy
Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) won the final of the Caribbean Twenty20 tournament after they overcame Hampshire by 33 runs. The match was played at Bridgetown in Barbados.
The toss was won by T&T captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adrian-Barath-c42094 and Lendl Simmons opened the innings, and T&T suffered an early blow when Barath was out early. He tried to clear long-on but didn’t time the shot to perfection and was caught in the deep.
The 21-year-old Darren Bravo then joined Simmons, and both players took the score to 79 with a good 77-run partnership. Bravo was the highlight of the partnership as he played brilliantly. Bravo’s 41 run innings off just 28 balls included five fours and two sixes. He got out trying to clear the ropes yet again but was caught out at long-off.
The wicket of Bravo triggered a middle-order collapse, as wickets fell at regular intervals. Simmons got out after scoring a steady 31 off 32 balls, and a few batsmen failed to capitalise on the starts they got. However, it was the captain of the T&T team, Ramdin who helped his side reach a fighting total. Ramdin scored 33 runs off 19 balls before he was run-out off the very last ball of the innings. T&T amassed 147 in their allotted 20 overs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danny-Briggs-c1315 and Benny Howell helped their team to restrict T&T below 150 runs. Both bowlers took two wickets each in the match and didn’t give away too many runs in their spells.
The start to the Hampshire innings was disappointing. The openers were struggling a lot and after no run was scored in the first eight balls, the first wicket of Johann Myburgh fell. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jimmy-Adams-c1696 was run-out after scoring a steady innings of 16 runs in 22 balls, and the middle-order also failed to cope with the accurate bowling of the T&T bowlers.
There was some resistance from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kevon-Cooper-c71194 and Jason Mohammed were the pick of the bowlers for T&T. Both grabbed two wickets each for their team.
Darren Bravo was named the man-of-the-match for his excellent batting, and the player-of-the-series award went to Lendl Simmons for his consistency throughout the tournament.
