Is it true that three years after graduating with a B.A. from Trinity College, Dublin, you can apply to have it recognised as an M.A?

I have heard this, but don't know if it is true. Apparently the fourth year and the mandatory thesis enable them to do this. Has anybody any info on this, or could someone tell me which department in Trinity I should ring up to ask?

  1. I know someone who did a 4 year degree at Trinity complete with thesis & still had to apply formally for a Masters and do the work for it.

The length of a degree course varies depending on the institution you attend and the subject(s) involved, most degrees carry a requirement to produce a thesis/final year project of some kind.  If we could all simply pay a little bit extra to obtain a Masters because we spent a little more time at Uni then someone else then it would devalue the whole idea.

Perhaps depending on the course or the circumstances involved someone could study for a combined BA & MA, I've never come across it though - I've heard of people doing a joint Masters/PhD before.

  2. Never heard of this one ....

  3. Call the switchboard - they should put you through to the appropriate department.

    Central College telephone number (switchboard): +353 1 896 1000

Add 896 if dialling from outside College

    01 896 if outside Dublin

    Add +353 1 896 if outside Ireland

Postal Address: Trinity College Dublin, College Green, Dublin 2, Ireland.
