Trinniberg and Currency Swap at it again in the Gallant Bob Stakes at Parx Racing
It has been a long 2012 campaign for both Currency Swap and Trinniberg, as they have run on consistently throughout the season, and in this part of the year, the rigours of the season show their toll on the runners.
Nevertheless, Teresa M. Pompay trained, Currency Swap, and Bisnath Parboo conditioned, Trinniberg, will clash once again in the six furlong long $300,000 Gallant Bob Stakes at Parx Racing – Philadelphia Park on 22 September, 2012.
It will be for the fourth time the two will lock horns, and currently the score is level at one each. Through the course of their careers, Trinniberg and Currency Swap have met thrice.
The two started their rivalry in the Grade 1 Hopeful Stakes at Saratoga going about seven furlongs on 5 September, 2011.
Running for Klaravich Stables and William H. Lawrence, Currency Swap got the better of, Trinniberg, in the 2011 Three Chimneys Hopeful Stakes by three quarters of a length.
The sophomore sprinters met for the second time in the Grade 2 Woody Stephens Stakes at Belmont Park, also at seven furlongs, but this time racing under the banner of Shivananda Racing, Trinniberg turned the tables on Currency Swap by a margin of 1 ¾ lengths.
Less sparks flew the third time these two met, and it was in their last start the Grade 1 King Bishop Stakes at Saratoga, but both failed miserably, as Currency Swap finished sixth in Trinniberg ninth to winner, Willy Beamin.
Currency Swap’s off the board finish led Teresa Pompay to work the son of High Cotton at Monmouth Park base, where he turned in four furlongs in 49 seconds flat.
"He's doing great, everything's on go with him," said Pompay. "I like my post in this race a lot better; he wasn't real happy at Saratoga when I ran him in the King's Bishop and he kind of got stuck down on the rail and boxed in. He wants to be more free-running; he's a big, heavy horse and he gets a little claustrophobic down in there."
Trinniberg on the other hand has only breezed once since his ninth place finish in the King’s Bishop Stakes, going four furlongs in 47 seconds flat.
The son of Teuflesberg has drawn post number seven at morning line odds of 9 to 5, while Currency Swap at 3 to 1 will break from post number 8.
