Trinniberg back in the run for the Kentucky Derby says Shivananda Parbhoo
The 3-year-old Kentucky bred colt, Trinniberg, has stayed undefeated in the year 2012, after losing 4 of 5 races in his juvenile career. With the choice of races his connections opted for Trinniberg doesn’t give an impression that the colt is getting ready for a shot in the Grade 1, $2 million Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on 5 May, 2012.
Bisnath Parboo trained, Trinniberg, competed in two seven furlong races. Starting from the Grade 3 Swale Stakes at Gulfstream Park, and winning it with the winning time of 1 minute and 21.69 seconds.
Next stop for the son of Teuflesberg was the Grade 3 Bay Shore Stakes, also at seven furlongs on 7 April, 2012, which was thought to be a Derby prep race. With the most unusual Derby trail adapted, Trinniberg emerged successful the second time defeating Hardened Wildcat in second and How Do I Win in third, with the winning time of 1 minute and 23.46 seconds.
The so –called Derby prep races out of the way, owner Shivananda Parbhoo decided to bypass the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby only 6 days ago, but doubtful for the Derby, Trinniberg is back in contention that his owner is likely to send him to Louisville on 5 May, 2012.
“You want to know the reason,” Parbhoo asked when questioned about his decision to reroute the colt to the Derby. “Secret Circle. When he came out of the race (due to a reported sesamoid injury), that’s what did it for me. With him out of the race, I know there isn’t another horse in the race with the kind of speed my horse has.”
These two met last fall at Churchill Downs in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint, when Trinniberg was out of the blocks swiftly as carved an impressive opening quarter mile, but Secret Circle overtook the pace setter to win the race.
“We’ll know after the first half-mile what the result will be,” Parbhoo said. “We’ll know, the jockey will know, and the rest of the field will know. I’m not worried about anyone else in the race if my horse gets in front.”
