Trinniberg finished second to Fort Loudon in the Grade 3 Carry Back Stakes
The sophomore, Trinniberg, held an entry in the Grade 2 Smile Sprint Handicap but his connections took the chance and ran him in the six furlong Grade 3 Carry Back Stakes at the Calder Casino and racecourse.
The young runner ran a good race, but it was not the kind of outcome the connections were expecting.
Under the command of rider Willie Martinez, the Bisnath Parboo trained runner raced as a favourite with a 1-5 chance, but it didn’t wasn’t his day.
He was in contention with Stanley I. Gold’s charge Fort Loudon, who was paired up with rider Fernando Jara, and raced behind Trinniberg.
The three-year-old colt recorded brisk fractions, as he completed the opening quarter of a mile in 22.05 seconds, and half-mile in 44.71 seconds, but the son of Awesome of Course, out of mare Lotts A Talc, caught up and completed the race in an impressive
time of 1 minute and 10.51 seconds by a marginal difference of a nose.
The third place was secured by the Angelofdistinction, who finished 13 ¾ lengths after the runner-up while, Rex's Last Tour, finished in fourth place.
The winning jockey commented that:
"We were pretty confident," Jara also added "Stanley told me not to let Trinniberg go by himself, and I didn't. My horse ran great."
Willie Martinez, Trinniberg’s rider, also appreciated the winning jockey’s effort and told the press that:
"Fernando rode a great race and kept the pressure on me. That's horse racing; nothing is guaranteed."
This was Fort Loudon’s third consecutive victory at the Calder racecourse, which is why he might’ve done exceptionally well.
Familiarity with the track has done wonders for the three-year-old who landed the first graded victory of his career in this race.
On 9th June, 2012, the colt ran an incredible race in the Unbridled Stakes, where he was mounted by the same rider. With his skill and speed, he defeated the David Fawkes trained, Bahamian Squall, while Angelofdistinction finished
third.
Trinniberg was counting on his only graded victory to land this race, which he claimed at Belmont Park in the Grade 2 Woody Stephens Stakes, but looks like he will have to wait another day to grab his second graded stakes win.
