Trinniberg fires a bullet of a workout at Churchill Downs ahead of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint
Trained by Bisnath Parboo for owner Shivananda Parbhoo, the 2-year-old colt Trinniberg is the Sentient Jet Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint prospect for his connections, and as November approaches the workouts pile on as well.
Trinniberg is no exception, because he would to be in top condition before the biggest race of his year old racing career, so he tuned up at Churchill Downs on 20 October over sloppy going.
The son of Teuflesberg out of Bella Dorato, Trinniberg worked half a mile in 48 1/5 seconds after a renovation break on a cold and rainy morning at Churchill Downs.
Trinniberg did not work alone, as he was accompanied by the 4-year-old stable mate Butler Cabin with blinkers on. Trinniberg’s run was recorded in fractions as he posted impressive fractions and then galloped out five furlongs in 1 minute and 3 2/5 seconds.
Trinniberg out finished his stable mate by two lengths, and his half mile move was the fastest among 22 other runs over at the same distance.
“It was a good little work and I got him to relax,” said Willie Martinez, who was the exercise rider at that time for Trinniberg. “He’s got natural speed and is extremely quick. At the top of the lane, when I asked him, he responded.”
The 2-year-old colt Trinniberg, broke his maiden in his first attempt at Calder race course on 8 July, 2011, under jockey J Alvarez.
The pair came off the pace in the five furlong long race and out finished the two front runners Bob’s Place and Twin to cover the distance in 59.24 seconds.
It was off to Saratoga after his maiden special weight, where he participated in the Grade 2 Saratoga Special to begin with, where he finished 5th on the day over at six and a half furlongs.
Next on the Saratoga card for him was the Grade 1 Hopeful Stakes, where he turned in a decent performance to finish second behind the winner Currency Swap on 5 September over at seven furlongs.
He also finished second in his next start in the Grade 2 Nashua Stakes at Belmont Park behind Vexor over at six furlongs.
