Trinniberg not up for the 1 ¼ mile Kentucky Derby distance
Trained by Bisnath Parboo for owner Shivananda Parbhoo, the 3-year-old colt, Trinniberg is sitting pretty in terms of graded stakes earnings for the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby set to happen on 5 May, 2012, at Churchill Downs.
Currently Trinniberg in 17th on the graded stakes earnings list, but according to his owner, the Kentucky bred son of Teuflesberg will bypass the Kentucky Derby, and said that the Calder based multiple stakes winner will go for shorter distances,
and have the Grade 1 Preakness Stakes as a viable option.
Though, Trinniberg is set to go to Churchill Downs, but not for the Kentucky Derby instead for a run in the Grade 3, $200,000 Derby Trial over a distance of 1 mile at Churchill Downs.
“Right now I’m 85% not going to the Derby,” Parbhoo said Feb. 15. “But I could reach 100% pretty soon. The way the horse is feeling right now, he’s doing so well, I don’t want to run him over his head. He’s a nice 3-year-old with so many options the rest
of the year. I don’t want to ruin him.”
Out of mare Bella Dorato by Goldminer’s Gold, Trinniberg has stayed undefeated in the new campaign, and he is exiting back to back victories. Trinniberg kicked off his season with a win in the Grade 3 Swale Stakes over a distance of seven furlongs.
On 10 March, 2012, at Gulfstream Park’s dirt course, Trinniberg coupled with W. Martinez, easily defeated Hello Prince in second and Ever So Lucky in third, while he topped the seven furlong distance in 1 minute and 21.69 seconds.
He was asked to do it again at the same distance in the Grade 3 Bay Shore Stakes, and he gladly obliged by downing the dash in 1 minute and 23.46 seconds at Aqueduct racetrack on 7 April, 2012.
“We’ll work him some time between the 18th and the 20th, and then we’ll look at the Derby Trial as the next logical spot,” Parbhoo said. “I think the one-mile distance of that race is perfect for him. And it’s a way to stretch him out a bit, without asking
too much of him.”
