Trinniberg one of the sophomores in the Grade 3 Carry Back Stakes at Calder Casino and racecourse
Instead of taking on the older division in the Grade 2 $400,000, Smile Sprint Handicap, the sophomore Trinniberg will be taking on runners his own age in the Grade 3 $150,000 Carry Back Stakes at Calder Casino and racecourse on 7th
July, 2012, which is reserved for runners that are three years of age.
Both the races cover a distance of six furlongs, but trainer Bisnath Parboo stated that the runner would need more experience to take on older runners. He has confidence in the runner’s winning ability as he told the media that:
"We think he would win either race," the trainer further added: "But for now, it is best to keep him with the 3-year-olds and give him more time to develop before he starts facing older horses in the fall."
The connections of the three-year-old runner are hoping that he will enter the Carry Back Stakes with the same momentum he showed throughout the season.
Provided he succeeds in this race, he will have enough points to qualify for the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Santa Anita Park in November, 2012.
Had the young runner competed and won the Smile Sprint Handicap, he would have been guaranteed a spot in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint, but with three graded victories, things are looking up for the Shivananda Racing owned colt.
The son of Teuflesberg, out of mare Bella Dorato, has all the ability which he clearly demonstrated in the Grade 2 Woody Stephens Stakes at Belmont Park on 9th June, 2012.
The sprinter rode under Willie Martinez, and bagged the victory over the Teresa Pompay trained, Currency Swap, in 1 minute and 22.26 seconds over the course of seven furlongs.
The runner landed a victory in the Grade 3 Bay Shore Stakes at Aqueduct on 7th
April, 2012, where he bolted through the seven furlong track, and defeated the Chad Brown trained, Hardened Wildcat.
In the Carry Back Stakes, chances are that, Trinniberg will race as the favourite. He has a number of elements working in his favour, and he will be able to excel. Usually used to racing over seven furlongs, adjusting to six will not be a problem.
