Question:

Trip To Germany - German Exchange gift.?

My daughter is visiting a friend in Germany, the return leg of an educational visit. Both girls are 13 yo.

She, my daughter, would like to take her friend, her teenage brother, and parents a little gift from England as a small thank you. However, she is a little stumped for ideas as to what she could take which would be appropriate, and light enough to fit in her case. I know she would like it to be "English" - something they won't necessarily get in Germany.

Any thoughts?

Many thanks in advance.

  1. You can get Cadbury's chocolate as well as Walker's Short Bread and even Duchy Originals in Germany, but few people know it. So it's always a good gift if you can't think of anything else. Personally, I prefer Yorkie bars ;-)

Apart from that, anything to do with tea will always be regarded as typically English.

Tea Bags have one great advantage: practically no weight in the luggage.

If you are looking for something more "exotic" from a German point of view, try Lemon Curd.

To a lesser degree, Flapjacks and Figrolls, too, would be exotic over here.

Alternatively, you could go to a National Trust property near your place with a gift shop. They are full of awfully English looking things; even their furniture wax looks as peculiarly English as possible.

  2. i did that in year 9 too.

i took some Dairy Milk (english) chocolate for the sibling. my mum thought of something for the other mum, like a tea towel (with the landmarks of nottingham on or something like that, as im from nottingham). and your daughter could get her partner some dairy milk also, along with a t-shirt or cd or a general gift, but one that they wouldn't get over there.

btw, she will have a great time, its really fun!
