Hello

I'm currently in 10th grade (untill the new school year, then I'll be in 11th). I want my graduation present to be a trip to Italy over the summer of 2010 (my graduation year)

I'd like to travel through and spend time in the major cities like Rome and Naples and really just explore through out the whole country for at least 1 month of my summer before college. Id like to go in a group, a small group preferably, maybe with a traveling company? I dont want to go alone :(

I was just wondering if anyone who has been to Italy on something similar to what I want, could you tell me how much it cost you? and just any advice on how to lower or sway the cost to go to Italy would be really nice.

THANK YOU ALL FOR THE ADVICE!

  2. I traveled through Italy just out of college.  Stay in the youth hostels.  You will save a ton of money.  Shop in the local markets.  You can get cheese, meat, bread, veggies and fruit and make your own food while your there.  Some hostels even have kitchens.  Hope this helps.

  3. The Hotel Felice in Rome is a good place to stay:

  5. FIRST- Small towns might be o.k. but it is very dangerous in Rome or Naples even in the day time with friends.  I travel a lot, have been to Mexico by myself..etc...and have NEVER been afraid until I was in Rome a couple of weeks ago.  It's not the Italians... it's the tourists...and there is a lot of Anti-American sentiment from other nationalities...on the train and elsewhere.  In Rome (2 days), we were called MFs, idiots, told "shame on you, " and my friends (mid fifties) had her hand smacked by a man for no apparent reason.  On the train from Rome to Ciampiano (great little town where we stayed) two guys (Armenian?) kept glaring at us, became louder and louder, and were visibly upset.  The only part of the ranting we understood was the frequent references to "Americano."  The rest of Italy was a peaceful breeze.  But we met a woman who, in Naples, had a person approach her and rip her earrings out of her ears.  BEWARE!

However, Italy is beautiful and you should definitely go.  Spend 3-4 days in Cinque Terre, 1 day in Pisa, 1 week in Florence (stay in Fiesole & use the #7 bus to go to Florence..cheap weekly bus pass), 1 week in Venice, 2-3 days in Bologna, and 1 week in Sicily.  Use the bus and train system.  Google Eurostar.  Shop for cheap hotels on hotels.com and other hotel web sites or check out the web site below.

  6. now the euro is more high than dollar...so for an american all is more expensive! Italy is fantastic and I advise you to visit Sicily...is wonderful...wonderful places, sea and people!
