hey there...

now here's the thing...i live in asia and i'll be going to college in vancouver in a few months...so i'll be on a student visa..now i have relatives living in seattle, washington and i guess i might have to go and meet them while i'm living in vancouver,BC.

so could you please tell me what i have to do to get to seattle,USA,since i'm only on a student visa in vancouver? also, do you think a trip by train is advisable? how much will it cost? and how long will it take? lastly, how much does it cost to stay in a hotel in seattle for a couple of days? thank you very much...

  1. I don't think you'd be allowed into the country unless you have a passport from whichever country in Asia you're from.  Definitely check this OUT before you travel or you'll have a bus or train full of people VERY pissed at you for holding everyone up at the border.

For the train just search "train Vancover to Seattle" and you can check rates.

There's also buses that run from the Vancouver airport to the Seattle airport with stops along the way.  I know that's pretty cheap.

    For hotels check Expedia.com.

  2. Travel agents help with that.

  3. You should contact the American consulate / embassy near you to find out whether you need a visa to enter the United States. You will certainly need a passport.

The one way train fare from Vancouver, BC to Seattle is $30. There is one train a day. Amtrak does schedule several buses a day from Vancouver for the same fare. The advantage of the train is it is more comfortable. The advantage of the bus is it is faster: 3:30 v. 4:20.

Hotels in Seattle start at about $60/night with $100 being OK, $150 being fairly nice. See if you can find an association discount, AAA, Entertainment card, etc.
