We are from Switzerland & family of 3 incl. 21 MONTH old boy. Currently, we are staying in Ajax witx our friends for holiday. However, we would like to stay overnights (3-4 nights) in other city to experience more, preferably not too far from Ajax (e.g. Toronto, Ottawa or other cities that are reachable by train) due to lower trip expenses. Pls. help me with your suggestion from point to point, We have no clue about canada, but we can't ask our friends, since they might get offended or they might think that they are not a good host. so your ideas will be appreciated it.

-which city would u recommend? near marine land, buffalo, or other cities we mentioned above would be good.

-which hotel? prefarably 3-4 stars in walking distance to restaurants & shops and NOT EXPENSIVE (below CAN 110/ night incl. tax). CLEALINESS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO US SINCE I'M HIGH ALLERGIC TO DUST.

-sightseeing & attraction suitable to 21 month old boy?

-the train tickets cost for 3 of us?

thx.

  1. I would respectfully disagree with euges429. If you are visiting us from Switzerland with a young child, I would think that Ottawa is the better choice. Toronto would be good for the older young people interested in night life and things of that nature.

Ottawa is the nation's capital. There is an immense amount of history - much of it set up for youngsters to learn about. There is more green space in Ottawa than any other city I have lived in in Canada - a better environment for a youngster than a concrete jungle.

The Rideau Canal is a great spot to take kids and enjoy yourself. You can just walk the walk or you can bike, boat, kayak etc.

There are so many museums, many of them within walking distance or a short bus ride from the Parliament buildings and the Rideau Canal. http://www.ottawaplus.ca/feature/mad_abo...

From a kids museum to the War Museum - something to interest just about everyone. No need to spend big bucks on expensive restaurants - pack a picnic or buy a burger at one of the kiosks and enjoy lunch at any of the grassy parks that abound in Ottawa.

No matter where you end up going - I am sure you will like it. I know - I am a tad biased - but this is the Greatest country and I love every inch of it. I hope you get to see some of it and enjoy yourselves doing it!
