I became really good friends with an exchange student from India, and she wants me to come stay with her in India.

I have a few questions, even if you could answer one, I'd appreciate it.

How much would a weeklong trip cost?

What do I need to know about India before I go?

India is the large country and India has lot of tourist palace in the all over country, so please you let me know that which part of India you will stay,

Normally India is too much cheaper than US, if you will stay in hotel weekly expneces is apx. 1000 USD at medium class hotel and if you will stay at your friend’s home then 100 to 200 USD is enough.

You required a US passport and Indian visa for visit India,

Oct to March is the perfect time for India visit.

About you money expanses i cant say anything because it will depend on your stay time with hotel and transport.

Where you should visit, mostly hot tourist destination is Delhi, Agra Jaipur, Rajasthan, Kerala, and Goa in India.

Your plane time would be 16 to 20 hrs it will be depned on airline.

How much would a weeklong trip cost? -  Travel would cos anywhere from 1500$ onwards , for a roundtrip air travel.. depends on the route, airline you choose etc. I assume your friend wants you to stay with her family.. so you wouldn't spend money on hotel stay. The rest like food, commute within the country etc is really cheap as compared to USA. So ur expense for weeklong trip will basically depend on how many places you visit, wat shopping you do etc. Even 500$-600$ will be enough for a week i guess.

What do I need to know about India before I go? - People do tend to overcharge, you need to bargain when go for shopping or you will end up paying more than double at times :) when you travel by a cab/autorickshaw make sure to take the prepaid ones or get urself familiar with the rates etc.

Go with ur friend ..don't go anywhere alone, don't trust strangers! :)



When would be the best time of year?  - November to February or March , or else its either rainy season or incredibly hot!

How much money should I bring(what is the currency and are things more expensive in India)? - Things you might be used to in USA like breakfats cereals etc will cost a lot.. but rest is cheap.

Where should I visit? - Places in and around Mumbai, Kerala, Agra for Taj Mahal , Temples in the Southern India, Goa lots to list here :) Also visit a Hindu temple, attend a marriage if possible :D that will be FUN!

How long would a plane from New York? - Total travel will be more than 24 hrs. for sure! Plane from NY will take more than 13-14 hrs in total... Also depends on which city in India you are going to.. not all places in India have international airports, so from the international airport to the city where you're going might take additional 4-5 hours or even more!
