Question:

Trip to Italy alone?

I have tried to get some friends to go along on a trip to Italy with me, with no luck. My husband doesn't travel out of the states, so I have decided to go alone. My question is, would this be safe? I do not speak Italian either, will this be a problem for me as well? What advice would you have for a solo woman going to Italy?

  1. in italy there is the legend that lonely woman are eaten by man.....

  2. Good for you!  I'm in the same predicament (except, i'm not married).  All my friends either are hitched or are single parents....boring.  Somehow I've managed to bribe a couple of them to travel with me around the states and Mexico......but I've been trying to get up the courage to go to europe by myself since I know most of them either can't afford it, don't want to, or are tied down.

I'm jealous for your adventure. Have fun and eat everything!

  3. Yes, i live here but have travelled alone a lot at first (i am originally from england) so i didn't know the language well at first. Make sure you stick to where there are people, don't go out alone at night on your own. There are tours you can book which would mean you are with people, maybe you should look into this. I gave this advice for someone else on here: wear plain clothes and as little jewellery as possible so that you don't stick out to thiefs etc. You can buy a special pouch which goes around your waist and hidden under your clothes for passport, money etc. i would take a vocab just so you can get to grips with the basics but you will find in the big cities that you may find some people who speak little english. Other than that you will be fine. Its baisc common sense especially when you are alone. I have never had problems. You will love it. Have a good trip!

  4. I toured Italy alone when I was 21...Landed in Rome, spent a few days at an american owned hostel called the Bee hive about a 5 mintue walk from the Colloseum. Very nice people. Then took the train up to florence and stayed in a cute little hotel, they spoke english there. Hopped on a train over to venice, then south to Rimini then back to rome. Was in Italy for 2 full weeks. Was always safe, people were friendly and helpful...you will absolutely love it!!!!

  5. OMG... Italy is very safe , specially the touristy areas.... Do come to Italy and enjoy our food and embrace our heritage and culture... It will open a whole new perspective in your life to see how other people in the world live and go about their lives. If this is your first time here... I would go to Roma , Firenze, Venezia and Milano.... If you dont have much time then pick 2 cities and really get to know them,,,.... bet you you'lll never forget this trip!!!!

    happy travels...
