  1. You have to be in really great shape to walk around Machu Picchu. The air is so thin and there are so many rocky steps that even the very athletic train to walk around there. There is a train that takes you up so far but still a long hike from that point and back.

  2. well  to macchu picchu yes because its located on the mountains and requires  a lot of  hike, i dont know about about amazon jungle though it does require walk though to see the  jungle

  3. This may depend on your dad and his level of fitness.  I've had both hips replaced and I'm not sure I would take a trip that required a lot of walking (say over 2 miles).  I'd also have a problem with altitude (nothing to do with hips, just with fitness level). If I were going, I'd probably consider a guided tour and ask lots of questions about the rigor required when visiting  places included on the tour before committing.  Asking beforehand beats going and then ending up sitting on the bus because the walk is too difficult.

  4. The only way to get to machu pichu is to walk at least 5 km, if you are worried about the walking then i think it would be best to go with a tour.

The tour guides would be able to tell you weather it is safe to go or not in his condition.

  5. machu-pichu is so very worth while even if there is some walking.

there is SOME, but there need not be lots.

you can get to cusco......take a beautiful and cheap taxi ride to olyantambo and then aguas calientes....OR straight to aguas calientes from cusco by train.  (option a is better) where you stay the night.  pay a trusted hotel person to help you with the bag....  THEN take the bus to machu-pichu the next morning

once there you can hike as much as you like, but with just a little bit of walking you can sit and enjoy the place...then walk just a little bit more, and sit and enjoy again.

yes, some bits of hiking is necessary...some effort, but you can do it.

....and cusco is very high up so the air is thin and there are some hills, but you need not climb them if you find a centrally located hotel which will cost a bit more.

machu-pichu is a place that is quite remote.....SO, they make it easy for those who can't do the hiking.

no pre-packaged tour necessary if you plan it right, and arrange the correct transport when you get there.

    have fun
