Question:

Trip to Phi Phi Island - Roller bag or Backpack?

Hi

continuing on my question for first trip Overseas...

Travelling by jetstar from Sydney to Thailand (Phuket) for ten days.

Should I take a roller bag, nice and easy.

or packpack... getting on and off ferry to phi phi island.

I don't want to be a goose and be unprepared with too much junk.

I know it's going to be warm, hot so won't need to take too much luggage.

But is there any problems people know of by taking a roller bag?

Thanks :)

  1. I don't see why you would have a problem with anything a suitcase, roller bag or back pack.  Most hotels on Phi Phi will meet you at the pier with a cart to carry your luggage.

  2. Back pack is the best thing to carry....coz phi phi island had got sand everywhere.....even if u carry the roller bag....u have to carry it coz u can drag it over the sand.

Another imp thing...i had just been to phi phi island.....make sure u go by a speed boat and not a cruiser. a small speed boat will take u to all the small islands....but the cruiser is so big that u can just see it from outside.

    Have a safe trip.

  3. If you have not purchased it yet, you might look for a convertible bag. I use one that has wheels and concealed straps that easily make it into a backpack. It also has a zip-off smaller backpack for day trips  When separated the larger one fits in the airline overhead and the smaller one underseat.  You are probably going to pack more than you need.

  4. Definitely backpack.  That way you don't have to waste money on some porter to carry your bags.  All the lodgings are relatively close to each other, so you don't have to carry your bag far.  Plus, the streets can be crowded and sometimes uneven which could pose a problem for a roller bag.  I would advise a backpack, but it's of course up to you.

  5. Either bag will be easy enough to tote round. Phi Phi has had a lot of improvements since the Tsunami; there's a pier and the new paths are easy going. You won't have a problem as long as you can carry your bag comfortably.

  6. If you take the big slow boat you'll have to get your bag onto the boat which is up this narrow plank with side rails...I saw some people with their roller suitcases and they looked uncomfortable getting the things on and off the boat, and no one helps you.  If you wanna hold up the crowd take the wheels, otherwise use a backpack for easier access and portability.

  7. any things would be find as i don't think you gonna keep moving every days. http://www.discovery-thailand.com/Phi%20... have a nice trip http://www.discovery-thailand.com
