Passport wise, yes you technically be able to enter China. Although, I would check with the American Consulates of Hong Kong before the trip. And be prepared for extra security and pickiness b/c of the Olympics.

I don't think you are allowed to enter HK unless you extend it or you apply for a new passport.

You dont need a passport to fly into HK. some of my friends fly into HK and buy a chinese passport from HK. If your going into china from HK then you will need one.

you need 6 months on your passport to visit most countires - hong kong included. Offically anyway; not sure how strict they are.

I'd attempt to get a new one to be safe if possible at such short notice.
