Martinair Holland flies to Costa Rica, which is a good country to visit.  Check if they fly to other cities, too.

Spirit Airlines has some really good deals from the US.  If you can find a cheap flight to New York, Chicago, or Fort Lauderdale (or Miami), you can connect to some cheap flights on Spirit to South America (Cartagena, Colombia, and Lima, Peru), Central America, and the Caribbean.

I always thought South America was very cheap.  Is it expensive to get there from Europe?  It isn't terribly expensive to fly from the US, depending on the destination.  But once you're there, I think everything is pretty cheap, depending on the country, of course.
